New Shopping Experience for Moms and Kids Opens in Elgin

June 22, 2004 -- OTHER MOTHERS offers a system of credit in exchange for your previously used children's and maternity clothes and baby furniture. The credit, alone or in combination with cash, offers a greater value and versatility by allowing the customer to bring in their lightly used goods in exchange for store merchandise.
Located in the Town and Country shopping mall at 300 S. McLean Blvd, near the Elgin Fresh Market, OTHER MOTHERS is much more than your typical re-sale shop. OTHER MOTHERS sets out to provide the look and feel of a full priced children's retail store by providing a bright, clean, fun atmosphere where the children can happily play in the kiddie corral while mom shops in comfort and style.

OTHER MOTHERS founder Melinda Smith, started her first store in 1979, stating at the time, "I wanted some sort of supplemental income, something where I could keep the children with me, something casual." From that simple premise grew the business which now encompasses franchises all over the United States. The Elgin store is owned and run by Elgin resident Sylvia Talo. "After several years working my way up the ladder of a major corporation I caught the entrepreneurial bug and longed to run my own business. After researching many different franchise options, I discovered OTHER MOTHERS. The family oriented concept of OTHER MOTHERS seemed the perfect choice. I love the idea of providing my own neighbors a fresh new alternative to the typical re-sale shop."

In addition to children's clothing in sizes 0 - 14, OTHER MOTHERS also offers maternity clothes for moms-to-be who are looking to expand their wardrobes while realizing incredible savings. Cribs, strollers, high chairs and many other items can be found at OTHER MOTHERS.

The store's colorful, bright decor is also sure to attract customers who otherwise would not shop at re-sale stores.
